Young patients enjoy a spooky surprise thanks to generous donations
Kids in our children’s wards were given Halloween treats thanks to the generous support from our corporate donor, Howard de Walden.

Directed by the children’s play team, a group of Howard de Walden staff gave up their time to visit a number of children’s wards on the 6th floor of St Mary’s Hospital, hanging seasonal decorations and providing a generous selection of goodie bag treats and sweets.

Children receiving treatment can sometimes feel they are missing out on events that they would usually celebrate with friends and family, such as Halloween and Christmas.

One of the wards visited, Grand Union ward, cares for children who are often more isolated due to their weaker immune systems and strict protocols to prevent infection.

Bringing some of the magic of these occasions to the wards via gifts, games and decorations, can give unwell children and their families a sense of normality and fun in what can be a worrying time.

One participant said: “It was great to be a part of the day and hear about the work your Charity performs to support Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

“It was also very humbling to hear about the work of the play team and I admire their enthusiasm and commitment to enrich the lives of the children they care for.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and it felt good to be able to give back a little something.”

Children and families were delighted to receive hand-made goodie bags containing colouring pens, bubbles, bracelets, puzzles and games. In Halloween fashion, children could also pick sweets from a number of cauldrons, take part in arts and crafts, and have their faces painted.
