Volunteer Responders on hand to help out at Charing Cross Hospital this winter
29 November 2023
A brand new team of volunteers at Charing Cross Hospital will be on hand to provide extra support for NHS staff this winter. Our Volunteer Responders will be ready and waiting to help with a wide range of non-clinical tasks – from collecting medication to picking up shopping for patients.
The new volunteers will be available to lighten the load for NHS staff and help the hospital respond to urgent tasks more quickly than normal.
“From transporting blood samples to speaking with patients who are feeling lonely, I always feel like I’m making a difference,” said Jimmy, a Volunteer Responder at Charing Cross. “The hours pass by with the blink of an eye!”
Since introducing the responder role in October, 29 volunteers have already given their time to help out at Charing Cross – and following requests from NHS staff, they’ve been able to assist with over 100 urgent tasks.
The Volunteer Responders will continue to provide support as part of a trial at Charing Cross throughout the winter.
Other tasks include moving medical supplies around the hospital and helping patients complete feedback questionnaires.
Their efforts will help the hospital respond quickly to urgent situations while allowing NHS staff to focus on providing the best possible care for patients.
“We are so grateful for the support of the volunteers. They have been so patient and so understanding.”
