Support our Winter Appeal and bring joy to children spending Christmas in hospital
Help us provide extra support for children in hospital by getting behind our Winter Appeal.

This winter, you can help us transform the experience of hospital for young people and enable our children’s services team at St Mary’s Hospital to bring a sense of fun and normality to children and families when they need it the most.

Being in hospital can be a frightening and uneasy time for children, especially at this time of year, and our incredible doctors, nurses and therapists will be there round-the-clock to help look after the young patients in their care.

"Lots of kids, including me, rely on St Mary's Hospital to keep them healthy and safe."

Oscar, a young patient at St Mary's Hospital

The festive period is usually a time spent with family, sharing gifts and celebrations, and with your support this winter we can help more children experience the fun of the season, and access a safe space to process their experiences through creativity and play.

Your generous donation to our Winter Appeal will go towards providing interactive activities, such as art and music therapy, to help support children’s mood and general wellbeing at a time of heightened stress and anxiety.

Children like Oscar would really benefit from your kind support. Nine-year-old Oscar lives with Diamond-Blackfan Anaemia, a rare and serious blood disorder, which means he has spent most of his life in and out of St Mary’s Hospital.

Oscar is dependent on regular blood transfusions to keep him alive, and in 2022 need a bone marrow transplant which restricted him to an isolation room in St Mary’s Hospital for more than eight months.

Oscar said: “Lots of kids, including me, rely on St Mary’s Hospital to keep them healthy and safe. When you are sick, you want to be somewhere that’s friendly, happy and colourful.”

Your donation to our Winter Appeal could go towards:

  • funding an art therapist on our children’s wards, giving children a chance to process their experiences through creativity and art.
  • music therapy sessions to support children undergoing lengthy and emotionally challenging procedures such as bone marrow transplants.
  • Toys and games for young people, giving them the opportunity to play and putting a smile back on their faces.
