Imperial Health Charity has partnered with seven leading artists to produce limited edition prints to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the NHS and raise money for the charity’s five hospitals. The seven prints, one for every decade of the NHS, were launched during an event at Purdy Hicks gallery and will tour St Mary’s, Charing Cross and Hammersmith hospitals throughout the summer.
The seven acclaimed artists supporting the project are: Peter Blake, Jeremy Deller, Tom Hammick, Mona Hatoum, David Mach, Elizabeth Magill and Chris Orr.
David Mach RA, a member of Imperial Health Charity’s arts committee, said: “What would we do without the NHS? The way we look after each other in this truly national institution is something we can be rightly proud of in the UK.
“We can be proud too of art and how it plays a vital role in healthcare, and I am excited to be working with the charity on a celebratory set of prints with a remarkable set of artists to mark the NHS 70th birthday.”
Proceeds from the sale of the prints will support the charity’s work in improving patient care across Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and a further 10 sets will be provided free of charge to other NHS trusts in London.
Delphine Allier, Arts Curator at Imperial Health Charity, said: “We are thrilled to be working with such high-profile artists to celebrate this landmark year for the NHS. It will be a fantastic opportunity to recognise the remarkable individuals who deliver such outstanding care every day, but also the vital role of art in improving the hospital experience for our patients.
“We believe that art has a critical part to play in making sure our hospitals are warm, welcoming and reassuring for patients, staff and visitors. In areas that can often be cold and clinical spaces, art creates hopeful and uplifting environments.”
The prints were produced by Worton Hall Studios and are available to buy on the CCA Galleries website.
