New phone charging units help visitors stay connected at our hospitals

The secure charging units will help to relieve stress and anxiety and can charge a regular phone battery from 0-20% in just 10 minutes. They will also save time for our ward staff, who can now direct visitors to the charging units instead of searching for available sockets.
In other hospitals, charging units have been shown to reduce aggressive behaviour towards hospital staff.
The introduction of the charging units will also reduce health and safety risks by providing safe and controlled spaces for patients and visitors to use electronics.
We awarded £33,000 of funding to install the units, which can be found in the Hammersmith Hospital restaurant and the Ground Floor reception area of the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother building at St Mary’s Hospital.
We have already seen an improvement in patient experience, with many visitors expressing interest in using the units.
Ian Lush OBE, Chief Executive of Imperial Health Charity, said: “We are so pleased to have had the opportunity to fund a project that will have a direct impact on patients and visitors within our hospitals.
“The charging units will help patients stay connected with loved ones during their time in hospital while easing pressure on NHS staff and enabling them to focus on other important duties.”
