Transforming the patient dayroom on our neuro-rehab ward

The dayroom is on 9 West ward, a specialist neuro-rehabilitation unit for patients with complex neurological conditions, where staff care for up to 15 patients at a time.
The room has been repainted and fitted with new flooring, furniture and facilities, creating a fresh and uplifting space for patients and their families to enjoy.
The refurbishment was made possible thanks to our £9,977 grant which helped to cover the cost of the improvements.

Ankita Shah, Physiotherapist
Ankita Shah is a physiotherapist on the unit at Charing Cross Hospital who helped deliver the renovation project alongside the neuro-rehabilitation unit team.
She said: “The new day room has had a hugely positive impact on all its users, enabling patients and visitors to socialise away from their bed space.
“It’s supported their rehabilitation by providing them with enriching activities and promoting their sense of independence.”
There are books, games, music, a new wall-mounted TV and a computer station to keep patients entertained, as well as tea and coffee facilities.
Patients can spend up to 12 weeks on the unit, and Ankita shared how it’s offered a welcome area away from the bed for patients to unwind.
She said: “Some patients have been in hospital for many weeks and have appreciated having a space where they are able to spend time doing things they enjoy.
“The patients have enjoyed sitting in the day room to watch key events such as the World Cup and the King’s Coronation.”
As the dedicated charity for Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, our support can help to improve the facilities for patients and staff across our hospitals.
Last year we also funded two new lounge areas for NHS staff at Charing Cross Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital.
